Basics: Magic mushrooms refer to species of fungi that naturally contain the psychoactive compound psilocybin, known for its mind-altering affects.

The Science: Scientifically known as Psilocybe cubensis, they are often referred to as psilocybin mushrooms, psychedelic mushrooms, or simply shrooms.
